The tech boom continues in Seattle with Apple adding thousands of jobs over the next several years.

In 2018, Apple announced they were seeking new engineering hubs outside of Silicon Valley – and that included growing their presence in Seattle.

Currently, Apple employs 500 people in the Seattle area – from retail stores to a machine-learning-focused office at Two Union Square. By the end of 2019, the company plans to add 200 more jobs.

The new address is just a block from the main Amazon hub. The two-building, 12-story complex in South Lake Union can hold up to 3,000 employees. While Apple’s plan is only for 2,000 new employees over the next five years at 333 Dexter Avenue, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan believes this leaves room for continued growth.

“If you look at where they’ve grown elsewhere in the country, their growth has been exponential to what they anticipated,” Durkan told The Seattle Times. “And so I think it’s a really good sign.”

The new office is slated to open by the end of 2019.
